School Commission
The
Commission was created in accordance with Archdiocesan policy, to assist the
pastor and the principal in policy areas relating to the
parish school. On an annual basis, the Commission selects specific school
goals and evaluates whether these goals are being met.
The
Commission is consultative in the following sense: the members cannot act
apart from the pastor and the principal and cannot address issues or make
decisions binding on the parish school without approval of the pastor and
the principal. Consultation also means that decisions will not be made
in major new goal areas until and unless the school Commission has been
consulted. The areas in which the Commission has responsibility and will be
consulted are:
The
Commission does not have responsibility in the areas of curriculum
and personnel. Questions or issues in those areas should be taken directly
to the school administration.
The
membership of the school commission consists of seven (7) voting members in
addition to the pastor or his delegate, the principal, and a representative
from the Parents’ Club. Five members will be school parents and two are
non-school parent parishioners. In addition, one member must be from the
Mary, Queen of Peace Parish. For the 2007-08 school year only, 2 additional
members (one representing OLOS Parish) have been added as many current
commission members terms end at the 2006-07 school year. It was important to
ensure a smooth transition from year to year since a majority of current
members rotate off this year.
The members for the 2007-08 school year are:
