Art, Music and Physical Education

Art

Our Art Program is coordinated by Mindy Schilperoort (AKA: Mrs. "Skip"), who loves passing on her knowledge and love for art to the children at St. Joseph's School.

Art classes are provided once a week in grades 1-5 and twice a week if chosen as an elective  for Middle School students at the Snoqualmie Campus.  The curriculum focuses on teaching the elements of art: line, shape, form, color, space and pattern through fun, creative projects.  During the year, the students are also introduced to various artists and styles of art from around the world.

Music

Music classes are provided once a week for Kindergarten and twice a week for 1st grade through 4th grade classes. All 5th grade students participate in Band. Singing and band are electives at the Snoqualmie campus for grades 6-8.

Kindergarten through 8th grade classes plan one Special Mass each during the school year. The students take great pride in their Special Masses and they do an excellent job.  The students and the Music Coordinator plan the special masses.  Students take an active role in the special masses by providing the music, reading scripture, and cantoring.

Physical Education

Our Physical Education Program is coordinated by Jane Hughes. Jane brings talent, experience and a commitment to Physical Education to St. Joseph School.

Students in Kindergarten participate in PE for 30 minutes, one time per week. Students in Grades 1-5 participate in PE for 30 minutes, twice per week. Students in grades 6-8 participate in PE everyday just before or just after lunch in place of "recess".

The curriculum in PE includes: fitness activities, games and skills, rhythms and dance, and gymnastics.  It is designed with a strong emphasis on the fitness component, to give the student as wide a skill, games, and dance experience as possible and to develop a sense of fair play, cooperation, and the ability to work in groups.

The intent of the curriculum is to foster in students a love of physical activity and instill a desire for physical fitness in each child.

The curriculum includes skills and lead-up activities for team sports, individual sports and lifetime activities.

The lessons are designed for each student to be successful and work at their individual pace.
