4th Grade
The
fourth grader’s growing sense of justice and fair play forms the
starting point for an exploration of Christian morality as a way of life.
Fourth grade religion, with a focus on Christian morality, is concerned
with building the character of the students. It realizes that Christian
character formation has a twofold foundation: action and motivation.
Emphasis is on our covenant relationship with God and responsibility to
the community. Activities and prayers help the child turn to the Church
for guidance in following Jesus.
The
course begins with the concept of covenant with God and the
responsibilities that go with it. Next, students learn the Ten
Commandments, God’s “rules” for living and respecting all life. They
then explore the meaning of Beatitude living in understandable and
practical terms for the fourth-grade student. They learn to choose between
right and wrong, the effects of sin, and the gift of God’s forgiveness
in Reconciliation.
The
call to serve others concludes the program as the children learn about the
Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy and the Christian call to serve
others.
Prayer:
There will be daily prayer times using
various prayer experiences, both formal and spontaneous.
Fourth
graders participate in a special way (reading, singing, etc.) in one of
the monthly all-school Masses.
