6th Grade
The
goal of religious instruction is to develop the student’s religious
experience through prayer, catechetical instruction on Church doctrine,
and application of biblical principals to their daily lives. Students will
also have opportunities to explore their individual feelings, attitudes
and choices and discuss moral values and social relationships.
Textbook
themes include:
God:
God’s saving actions are found throughout history. The Old Testament is
studied specifically as an account of God’s saving actions in the
history of the Jewish people, especially through the central saving event
of the Exodus.
Students
will explore how God spoke to his people through judges, kings, priests,
prophets, and poets, and continues to speak to his people today.
Church:
Students will study the church as a sign of God’s presence in the world
today through the saving actions of Jesus. These are expressed both in the
Sacraments and in the faith and good works of the community, the Body of
Christ. Students will study the four marks of the Church: one, holy,
catholic, and apostolic. Students will study liturgy as the most important
act of worship in the Catholic community.
Prayer:
Students pray daily using a variety of prayer experiences, both formal and
spontaneous. Students will help to prepare some of these experiences.
Social justice and community service are also a component of religion.
Students play an active role in their community and church by
participating in community service projects. Students attend Mass in the
Snoqualmie campus gym twice per month and will help prepare one Mass
during the year.
