Third Grade

MRS. HUTCHINSON

Third grade at Saint Joseph Parish School is an engaging and wonderful place to learn. As you enter one of our two classrooms, you will notice a community that fosters excitement for learning and a sense of belonging. Peek into our classrooms and you may notice students working on customized laptops, in small group activities and discussions, or engaging in whole group lessons displayed on our SmartBoard. Scan our bright, welcoming bulletin boards and you will find student work displayed proudly, capturing the very essence of learning from Science to Social Studies, Reading to Writing, and Math to STEM projects.

In third grade, students continue to build the characteristics of responsibility and accountability through student centered classroom management techniques and expectations. The third-grade team fosters positive mindset through Social Emotional Learning (SEL). In partnership with parents as the first teacher of their children, we help each child find success. The positive mindset grows even further as students connect who they are with the example of Jesus found in the Gospel.

In the fall, winter, and spring, students take MAP Growth assessments, which when used in conjunction with other factors, help in guiding instruction throughout the year. To view our 2023-24 MAP Growth Assessment scores, click HERE.

Fourth Grade

MS. CARMODY

In fourth grade at St. Joseph School Parish School, you will find a Christ-centered education that empowers students to reach their full potential spiritually, intellectually, socially, and morally. We have high expectations for all students to do their best while fostering a love of learning and a love for God.

Fourth graders become socially responsible citizens and life-long learners. Learning takes place with differentiated instruction across the curriculum. There is a respect for learning differences and support for all levels of learners. Students engage in both whole group and small group instruction throughout the day, learning how to collaborate with one another. Additionally, technology is integrated throughout the day as students have access to individual laptops.

Students are encouraged by classmates, teachers, and staff to build confidence, acceptance of others, and happiness within themselves as they strive to reach their full potential. Families play an important role as well at SJS. Parents are a child’s first and most important teacher and are an integral part of the community.

In the fall, winter and spring, students take MAP Growth assessments and growth assessments in reading and math, which are used to guide instruction throughout the year. To view our 2023-24 MAP Growth Assessment scores, click HERE.

Fifth Grade

MRS. SHEPPARD

Fifth grade at Saint Joseph Parish school is a year full of growth, digging deeper, and preparing for middle school. Teachers and Specialists work together to provide differentiated instruction for each student. Throughout the day students have opportunities to show what they know through collaborative work, performance- based activities, and individualized learning assignments. In fifth grade it is important for the students to gain independence and self-advocacy to prepare for middle school.

Fifth grade is a time to delve deeper into our understanding of the Sacraments and build our faith through them. Students are continually challenged to further their understanding of our faith by making connections within other core subject areas.

The fifth-grade team works with students to develop a growth mindset. For example, students learn that it is okay to make mistakes, to keep trying when something is challenging, and to be problem solvers throughout different subject areas. Continued development of organizational skills is also an area of focus throughout 5th grade.

In the fall, winter, and spring, students take MAP Growth assessments in the areas of reading, math, and language usage. This assessment data, along with several other indicators, helps guide instruction throughout the year. To view our 2023-24 MAP Growth Assessment scores, click HERE.
